Welcome to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR dept), one of the many departments within the Christian Medical College, Vellore. These web pages give information about the services within the PMR dept for people with disabilities: for those who may want to come for treatment and any others who want to know more about what we do.
Christian Medical College, Vellore, often just called CMC Vellore,
is a teaching hospital dedicated to treating patients and training
healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses.
In 1900, Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder started the Christian
Medical College with one bed in her bungalow. Since then,
CMC has been growing both in the numbers of patients seen and the
numbers of services available. Today, CMC has over 2400 in-patient beds
and sees over 5000 out-patients daily, with 67 wards, 46 clinics every
day and over 120 departments / units.
CMC is a teaching institution. The college trains doctors, nurses
and allied health workers including physiotherapists, occupational
therapists, radiographers (X-ray technicians), medical records
officers, ECG technicians - over 90 different courses in all. All are
trained in technical skills to serve with love and compassion, in the
spirit of Christ. More details about admission to these courses can be
found on the CMC Courses web pages.
CMC wants to provide excellent healthcare and wants to treat rich and poor patients.
* It is one of the leading medical institutions in the country in the areas of teaching, medical research and high-tech health care,
* It tries to meet the needs of the poor through low cost in-patient wards and out-patient clinics.
Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder gave the college the Biblical motto:
"Not to be served but to serve."
This challenges CMC's students and staff to put the patient's needs first.
CMC is now very big and always changing and this makes it difficult for patients and visitors to know about everything available here. We hope these PMR pages will help people when they visit the PMR dept in the hospital. The pages are constantly changing and many were updates in 2011.
We are slowly changing to a new website that will allow us to have
new features that we hope will make the site better for our visitors.
You can see the new site here: New PMR pages
Our main rehabilitation for inpatients is the Rehab Institute in Bagayam.
We are adding a third floor to Rehab at the moment. This will give more inpatient beds and a children's ward and new inpatient treatment area.
We hope this information is accurate; if you
have any additional information that may be useful or spot any
mistakes, please let us know.
